SmartRegs for Energy Efficient Rental Properties
Posted On July 7th, 2010 by Grace | Comments ClosedIn late 2008, the Boulder City Council decided that it should address greenhouse-gas emissions by creating regulations for energy efficiency in rental properties. The regulations, called SmartRegs, were approved on the first reading in June. In a meeting last night, the City Council decided, if approved, SmartRegs will be required for all of the estimated 19,000 or so rentals in Boulder by December 31, 2018. Landlords will have a generous amount of time to make the improvements, which include, adding better insulation or sealing air ducts, and is estimated to cost between $675 and $3,243 per property depending on age and overall condition.
